The EU Lisbon Treaty

The Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe, which aimed to make European union a political, economic and military “great capitalist power” has collapsed due to the vote of people in France and in the Netherlands, as well as due to the broad resistance of the people in the EU countries. The ruling circles have achieved an approval, on October 18 in Lisbon, of so called “EU Treaty”, which should be signed on December 13, aimed both to lay down by contract and to impose a reactionary antisocial and military politics against the interests of the people.

The popularity and the democratism?
An agreement on the basis of mandate of a new Intergovernmental Conference for making of a new Treaty, agreed by the heads of the states in the last session of the European Council, is an obvious indicator of a real value of such a “Popular and democratic EU”.

With the aim to save the neoliberal concept and to ensure that the EU will be still keeping this orientation, as well as to deprive the peoples of their vested right to decide directly, the new text will be called the “EU Treaty” instead of the “Constitution”. Such a change will enable this Treaty to be discussed and adopted in the framework of the Intergovernmental Conference behind closed door. We are witnesses of the precedence of free market politics over both the democracy and the participation of people, from the side of the “authentic democrats”.,,,,,,,,,,
